*Chiba Prefecture's traditional craftsman
The Sobi-zukuri technique
Yoichi Ishizuka's studio (Manzaki town, Narita city) stands on the Habu hill. Coke's pale flames burn in the furnace. Taking the red hot steel from the furnace, it is placed on the anvil and beaten with a hammer wielded by the strong arms of Yoichiro Ishizuka. Slowly and after many operations it is stretched, cut and shaped until the scissors are born. This technique is called "Sobi-zukuri" and was passed down to him by his father, the master craftsman, Shojiro and is similar to the Japanese sword making technique. Ten years ago, Yoichiro took over his father's business and became Shojiro the second, proving that his products are of the best quality.
