Local specialities

Unexpectedly Narita is famous for its water. Pure water is pumped up from an underground vein and used in the making of locally produced wine.

Narita's Hokuso plain is one of the major growers of peanuts in Japan.

It's known as Naritasan Goreiyaku (medicine with power of God). Since the Edo period it has been made and sold as a souvenir for visitors to the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. All visitors used to buy the medicine as a household item, using it as a specific treatment against stomach ache and food poisoning. Today it is still sold at two drugstores on Omote-sando road. Both of these drugstores were established in the Edo period.
