Yokan
Yokan is Narita's trademark souvenir

It is said that Yokan (sweet jelly of azuki beans) is Narita's trademark souvenir. Originally it was served as a vegetarian dish for buddist. Now there are rarious kinds of Yokan. Local grown chestnuts mixed in Neri-Yokan have become popular. Then "Kuri-Yokan" become established.

The typical one is Cucumber bored end-to-end and filled with green pepper rolled in the beefsteak plant leaf, then pickled in soy sauce and sweet sake (mirin) and other seasonings. It is called "Teppozuke". Each store has their own specialties some using Gobo (Burdock) as a filling for these pickled vegetables.

Senbei
Crunkey rice crackers!!

These rice crackers are a recently introduced souvenir to Narita. Traditional methods are used, with the crackers baked by hand over a charcoal fire. The crisp and tasty senbei are very popular among visitors.

Eel
Well roasted in a sweet sauce

Eel caught in Lake Imba used to be used but these days the Eel are imported. However the taste of an Eel cooked in temple town is unforgettable. The Eel are roasted until firm and eaten with a slightly sweet sauce.

Tsukudani

It is said that Narita's "Tsukudani"(food boiled in soy) was first produced in about 1899. "goro"(a goby) and shrimps caught in Lake Lmba are boiled sweet and made into "Tsukudani". "Kanro-ni"(Small fishs in), "Suzume-yaki", e.t.c., it has a popularity because it cooked while fresh and naturaly taste.
