113 burial mounds stretching out over the hill

 

These are the Ryukaku-ji burial mounds (Ryukakuji kofungun) and there are 113 altogether. The largest one of all is the Iwaya burial mound, and is 78 meters long.

This large park, which contains historical remains, is located to the north west of Narita city, on the Hokuso hill section and covers an area of 300,000 square meters. Having walked through pine trees, one comes upon the circular burial mounds. This is the place to experience history among the natural surroundings.
The Boso Fudoki no Oka Museum is a red brick building and stands in greenery. In this museum, Archaeological artifacts such as Haniwa (clay figures of men or animals) and Sue ceramics are exhibited. Lake Imba can be seen in the distance as one walks along the pathway of the park. The former elementary school, Gakushuin sits in the park. The image of this school was used on stamps.
