Passing through the gate, located beside the Daiichi shinto assembly hall (daiichi shinto kaikan) on the main pathway (Omote-sando), one enters the precincts of the Naritasan. At the top of the stone steps, there is Niomon Gate (Niomon, a national property treasure) from which a big lantern hangs.
After passing through Niomon Gate and climbing a second flight of steps, one will come to the main hall which has additional halls on both sides. In the main hall stands a statue of Fudo-myoo god (the God of Fire) carved by the great monk, Kobo-daishi. This area has 488m2 (equivalent to 296 tatami-mats). In the center of the hall, incense is always burning.
One will come to the main hall(Dai-hon-do) which has additional halls on both sides. There is a Three-storied pagoda, a national treasure, stock of sutras (Issaikyo-do) and a bell tower (Shoro).
On the left side of the square, in front of the main hall, there is Shakado hall (national treasure). It was built in 1858 and used to be the main hall. Inside there is a image of Shaka-nyorai, the founder of Japanese buddhism. On its sides, there are reliefs, carved towards the end of the Edo period. These reliefs are know as "24 koh"(24 thoughts) and show characteristics of the late Edo period.
To the left of the main hall there is a pathway leading to Daito Pagoda(Daito). At the top of a flight of stone steps is Komyodo hall (national treasure) and to its left Gakudo hall with its abundance of votive tablets and Ema (votive picture of a horse).
Komyodo hall (national treasure) dedicated to Dainichi Buddha (Dainichi-nyorai) was built in 1701 and was the main hall before Shakado. Every May in front of Komyodo, Takigi-Noh (Noh play lighted by fire brands) is performed.
To the right of Komyodo there is Kiyotaki-gongen shrine (Kiyotaki-gonge shaden) and behind there is an inner shrine (Oku-no-in). Up the flight of stone steps to the right of Kiyotaki-gongen shrine there is a waterfall and a beautiful view of the valley. From here on it is Naritasan Park.
Walking along the path behind Komyodo, one can see Daito Pagoda (Daito). This Daito was constructed in the year 1984. The pagoda symbolizes the doctrines of the Shingon-mikkyo sect principle idea of mutual respect and dedication. Its appearance is awe-inspiring.
