Recreation at Tourist Attractions


(1) Naritasan Shinshoji Temple (admission free)

This temple was built more than 1060 years ago. The present main temple was rebuilt in 1968. In the precincts, there are many buildings which are designated as cultural assets. Some 12 million people visit there each year. In January, the temple is especially crowded with people who pay their first visit of the year. Also, Setsubun (the beginning of Spring) in February, Daitou Festival in May, and Gion Festival in July, are the occasions when the temple is crowded with sightseers.


(2)Naritasan Park (admission free)

The traditional Japanese landscape garden lies to the rear of the Shinshoji temple. A beautiful view as it changes from season to season gives people a peace of mind. Especially, ume blossoms in spring, cherry blossoms and fresh green, and tinted autumnal leaves are wonderful. In the park, there are Naritasan Calligraphy Museum and Daitou for peace. (Heiwa no Daitou)


(3) Narita Kankokan (Narita Tourist Pavilion) (admission free)

This building lies on the entrance path to the Naritasan Shinshoji temple and functions as an information center and a rest house for sightseers. Real Floats used at Narita Gion Festival are on display.


(4) Sohgo Reido (admission free)

Sohgo Reido was built to worship Sohgo Sakura who was executed after making a direct appeal to Shogun to save people in a plight was excuted. In the precincts is "Sohgo Memorial Hall" (toll) where people can recall Sohgo's story.


(5) Fudoki no Oka, Boso no Mura (admission free)

The old streets of towns and farmhouses in Edo period are presented in the same way as they were. There is "an experiencing section" which is popular among visitors and is also a building where the earthen wares excavated from ancient tombs are on display. Here you can truly experience old Japanese culture.


(6) Sanrizuka Memorial Park (admission free)

The park lies at the site of the Sanrizukagoryo Pasture which was closed due to the construction of Narita Airport. Passing through the street lined with horse chestnut trees, you'll find a memorial hall and the house for honored guests. In the hall, documents which describe its own history of stock raising as well as its unique relationship with the Imperial house are displayed.


(7) Hana-Ueki Center (Flower and Tree Center)

In the garden stretching far and wide are a great number of flowers, trees and plants, giving visitors a great comfort. Flowers and garden plants are on sale.


(8) Aviation Science Museum (Shibayama town, toll)

It lies south to Narita Airport and you can enjoy a great view of takeoff and landing of airplanes. In the front garden or inside the musium, aircrafts, machines and materials are exhibited. There is also an experiencing section.


(9) Narita Dream Pasture

Here you can ride horse, milk a cow, and touch small animals. They provide auto camping sites too.


(10) Historical and Folklore Museum

This is the national museum built on the site of an ancient castle and is proud of being the largest of its kind in Asia. The materials on Japanese history, archaeology and folklore have been collected and displayed as a history of human life covering the ancient period to the modern times.


(11) Katori Jinjya (shrine) (Katori city, admission free)

A formal shrine built in a thicket of large old Japanese cedar trees. The shrine was built in 1700 by Shogun Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, who is worshipped as a God of proficiency in martial arts, traffic safety, marriage, easy childbirth, and so on.
