Preparations for Earthquake
Japan is a country with frequent earthquakes, most of which are small. However, when strong earthquakes do occur, tremendous damage can result due to the collapse of buildings and the start of fires.
It is best to prepare and store an emergency kit consisting of: food, drinking water, first aid kits, radios and flashlights.
When evacuation is necessary, the followings are the designated places for refuge; elementary schools, junior high schools and high schools. Other places for refuge include Chuo Community Center, International Cultural Hall, the Nakadai Athletic Park, etc.
It is important for family members or friends to discuss in advance where to take refuge in the event of earthquake.
1. In case of earthquake
After an earthquake, the biggest danger is fire. The kitchen stove must be turned off immediately and the buildings' gas mains (main gas supply valve) must be shut off quickly. Once this has been done, one should seek cover underneath a table, remain calm and wait for the shaking to subside.
